J. M. Tyree is currently a Writer-at-Large for Film Quarterly, and the co-author, with Ben Walters, of the book BFI Film Classics: The Big Lebowski, published by The British Film Institute. He was a Truman Capote Fellow in Fiction in the Wallace Stegner Fellowship Program at Stanford. He grew up in Wisconsin and studied at Middlebury College and Cambridge University. His writing has appeared in American Short Fiction, The Believer, The Nation, New England Review, Sight & Sound, as well as on KQED's arts program "The Writers' Block" and in the anthology Created in Darkness by Troubled Americans: Best of McSweeney's Humor Category (Knopf/Vintage).
