ENGLISH 182S: Looking North: Canadian Literature (seminar) Taught by: Alice Staveley Spring Quarter, 2007-2008 TTh 1:15-3:05, Room: 110-111A | This course examines the works of major contemporary Canadian writers including Margaret Atwood, Alice Munro, Michael Ondaatje, Rohinton Mistry, Yann Martel, and Carol Shields. It will engage with themes of national identity, race, class, gender, postcolonialism, geography, bilingualism, regionalism and landscape in Canadian writing, offering students an enlarged map of North American literature and a deeper insight into the culture and literary productivity of America’s northern neighbor.
