English 90 explores the basic elements of fiction writing. We read published short stories and study craft elements such as character development, dialogue, and structure. Students learn the craft of fiction through practice and discussion. Coursework includes in-class exercises, short writing assignments, a longer quarter project, and revisions. The writing workshop is an essential component of the course, and students are expected to actively read and discuss each other’s work. This course fulfills the following Major Requirements:
