The Comics: More Than Words Research Group will be hosting Michelle Bumatay, Professor of French Studies at Florida State University, who will be presenting on women creators of black bandes dessinées. Professor Bumatay will be discussing an abridged version of a forthcoming chapter from her current book project that describes the emergence of Francophone comics by cartoonists and comic book creators from Sub-Saharan Africa. In this chapter and presentation, she will focus on Aya de Yopougon by Marguerite Abouet & Clément Oubrerie and La Vie d'Ébène Duta by Elyon.
