Reading 1984 in 2017

A recent surge in popularity of George Orwell’s 1984 offers us a unique opportunity to come together as a community over a text of wide interest and applicability. Please join us on October 26 as the Stanford English Department and Hillsdale High School team up for an innovative literary collaboration. Professor Alex Woloch, Chair of the English Department and author of Or Orwell: Writing and Democratic Socialism, will provide his insights on the novel. His talk will be interspersed with interpretations and dramatic renderings of key passages from Hillsdale students. Altogether, this will be a literary evening that is accessible, interactive, and enjoyable. Free and open to the public.

This event is sponsored by the Stanford Office of Community Engagement, Stanford Humanities Center, Stanford English Department, and Hillsdale High School.
