Shannon Pufahl grew up in rural Kansas. She teaches at Stanford University, where she was a Stegner Fellow in Fiction. Her essays, on topics ranging from eighteenth-century America to her childhood, have appeared in The Threepenny Review and elsewhere. She lives in Monterey, CA, with her wife and their dog.

Ruchika Tomar was raised in Southern California. She holds a BA in English literature from the University of California, Irvine, and an MFA from Columbia University. She has received fellowships from Vermont Studio Center, The MacDowell Colony and The Center for Fiction. A recent Wallace Stegner Fellow, she is currently a Jones Lecturer at Stanford University.
