What did Langston Hughes and W.E.B Du Bois have to say about race and blackness in two radically different moments in China when they visited in 1933 and 1959? How was their work subsequently translated and reconfigured by the Chinese literary scene to build narratives of national survival? Through exploring the transnational travels of these two consequential writers, the informal lunch invites dialogue on evolving Afro-Asian discourses in modern China through the Maoist era.

Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP at this link.
