We have formulated a number of useful resources for graduate students, to supplement the mentoring you will receive from your advisor and other faculty members, the Director of Graduate Studies, the Graduate Placement Officer(s), and the graduate-student-led Pedagogy Committee.
At Stanford, I’ve gained access to really great faculty mentorship. People like Paula Moya, Mark McGurl, and Ramon Saldivar were tremendously supportive in reading my work and giving me thoughtful, insightful feedback on it. And although I came in with this archive knowledge, one of the major lacunae in my reading was theoretical. So I got a very good education in applying theoretical discourses to the works that I wanted to talk about in ways that didn’t overwhelm the works themselves or take priority over them. That, I think, is one of the chief benefits of being here.
