It seems impossibly clichéd to say that teaching is a kind of exploring. I have been and continue to be a student of many things. In one part of my life (the professorial part) I am privileged to be a guide. I believe that literature (film, philosophy, novels, poems) can be a source of magic. When I teach I feel that my students and I are setting off together into the wilderness—one where I have more experience but no more real knowledge of what we will find. We seek, we build, we collaborate, we meet up together to share what we have found. And we come back to our ordinary lives transformed by the encounter.
