Kai Carlson-Wee grew up on the Minnesota prairie. He received his BA in English from the University of Minnesota and his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His first collection of poems, RAIL, was published with BOA Editions in 2018. He has received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, the Sewanee Writers' Conference, and his work has appeared in Narrative, Academy of American Poets, Best New Poets, Adroit, Linebreak, and The Missouri Review, which selected his poems for the Editor’s Prize. His photography has been featured in Narrative Magazine and his poetry film, “Riding the Highline,” received the jury prize at the 2015 Napa Valley Film Festival. He lives in San Francisco.
