Katie Livingston is a PhD candidate in English at Stanford. She is an Americanist who specializes in short fiction, material culture, and local color/ regionalist fiction of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Her dissertation focuses on how, in lieu of the marriage plot, women writers during the Progressive Era imagined alternative “objects,”—sexually, economically, and narratively— when a male love object is absent.

Beyond her research, she works as a Digital Public Fellow for Stanford Arcade and volunteers with Hope House and the Stanford Jail and Prison Education Program. She has also taught at local community colleges and universities through the Faculty Diversity Internship Program at West Valley-Mission College District and the Stanford Preparing Future Teaching Professors Fellowship.
