Summer Internship Grants

We are committed to the career development of our majors. The department's summer internship grant program, supported by the generosity of the Kaplan Endowment, awards student grants of $1000 to help subsidize all or part of a summer internship at an organization that allows students to put their academic experience as English majors to work.

How to Apply

Applications take the form of a written proposal of no more than 500 words explaining the nature of the internship position, dates of employment, organization name, name of the internship supervisor, and contact information for the organization. This opportunity is only open to current English majors in good academic standing who are not graduating in spring.

The application deadline is May 22, 2020 at 4pm. Applications should be submitted in the form of a PDF attachment sent to Vivian Beebe Sana. Each proposal is screened by a committee of faculty and decisions are announced soon after the deadline. Late applications will not be considered.

Internship grant recipients are featured on the English department web site as well as in the English department annual newsletter.

Please note: Students are required to identify their own internship arrangement and use appropriate due diligence in vetting the internship position. Stanford University's Department of English will provide funding only and recuses itself from all other responsibilities. In applying for this grant, students release Stanford University from any liability arising in connection to this internship opportunity.
