Poetics: Autumn 2021 Schedule

Dear friends and colleagues,

I hope this message finds you well. We are very excited to announce the return of the Stanford Workshop in Poetics for the 2021-2022 academic year. In particular, we are pleased to share that, barring any changes in university policy, the Workshop will be holding its Autumn Quarter meetings using a “hybrid” format, with both in-person and Zoom attendance permitted (registration information and Zoom details will be circulated in advance of each session).

Below is our schedule for the fall:

  • Friday 11/5 @ 2pm PT (note the later-than-usual time) in the Board Room of the Stanford Humanities Center – Prof. Lucía Martínez Valdivia (Reed College) will workshop “Audiation: Listening to Writing” (PDF attached), a paper forthcoming in Modern Philology and the basis for her current book project. More details will be available closer to the event.
  • Friday 11/19 @ 1pm PT in Pigott Hall Room 216 (note that this event will not be held at the Humanities Center) – Prof. Nigel Smith (Princeton University) will give a presentation titled “Purity of Diction in English Verse, Dissenting Poetics and the Student Revolution: Donald Davie in Cambridge, Essex and Stanford, and What Next?” in conversation with Prof. Robert von Hallberg (Claremont McKenna College). More details will be available closer to the event.
  • Friday 12/3 @ 1pm PT in the Board Room of the Stanford Humanities Center – Radhika Koul (Comparative Literature) will workshop a draft paper titled “Beyond Foucauldian Hermeneutics: Didacticism and Rasadhvani in
  • Lalla’s Poetics.” More details will be available closer to the event.

Let us know if you have any questions, and good luck to all for the start of the new year!

Best wishes,

Jonathan and Kat
