Caroline Bailey
Caroline Bailey is a PhD candidate in English, studying contemporary literature from across the hemispheric Americas. Her dissertation, The Other Babel: Linguistic Anthropology and the Novel of the Americas, studies how the emergence of linguistics as an academic discipline impacted the representation of language in American literatures from 1960 to the present. Her research, which is generously supported by the Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowship (SIGF), also dabbles in indigenous studies, genre theory, and narratology.
At Stanford, Caroline helps run Cafecito Quechua, a working group with the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) that focuses on uplifting Andean language and culture. In addition, the Stanford Community Print Shop is one of her favorite places on campus, and she loves to discuss letterpress printing, bookbinding, and the power of the small press.
